New details about future visas for foreigners in Indonesia became known

The Ministers for Tourism and Human Rights of Indonesia announced new details of future visas for foreigners. Authorities were considering issuing special visas for digital nomads (IT remote workers). The minister said there are 4.8 million people consider themselves to this group. A good market already!

Thus, foreigners will be able not only to live and work remotely in Bali, but also pay income tax here. Indonesia has signed a double tax agreement with the majority of civilized countries. A 10% tax here would be beneficial for the US and European residents, where it reaches obscenely sum.
💡 The details of another initiative, a special long-term visa, have been proclaimed. Such visas to be issued for a period of five years and could be renewed after. It will be possible for foreigners to live in Indonesia and invest in the local economy.


The primary requirement is to keep IDR 2 billion($140 thousand) per person in deposits or IDR 2.5 billion($180 thousand) for the family.

In my opinion, all of this is a very good step. 2020 showed what tourism in Bali might look like with richer audience. Since October, all my car rentals have said that they no longer have cars. In comparison, there were a lot of available bikes.


Yacht tours to Komodo and Raja Ampat had no lack of customers. The same situation is with the A-class villas, which were rented at the beginning of the pandemic, as well as after opening of borders at the end of August. Lower-level real estate was not so popular.

How can this affect investors?

If these initiatives are implemented, it is a win position for those companies who offer a good product to older people, not only targeted at young audience's preferences. If we speak about the real estate market the profit is a bigger average check depends on personal demands for square footage, privacy, design, quality, and much more.
